The ASSET comes packed in a foam-padded hard shell case and includes:
The ASSET has a threaded hole for attachment of a standard 1/4-20 screw directly from a tripod, or from a hot shoe. Figure 1 shows the two holes located on the bottom of the ASSET. The center hole is the proper one to use. Figure 2 shows the ASSET base mounted to the hot shoe.
Some tripods may contain magnetic pieces like steel screws, springs and pins. Such elements may cause compass errors. The panning head type tripods are the worst in this regard and have been found to cause errors up to 5°. For this reason, we recommend use of the ball head type tripods, which are generally fabricated from aluminum and therefore not magnetic.
In addition, any magnetic metals near the compass, including wristwatches, hardware, and tools, should be removed from the vicinity of the compass during alignment to obtain the most accurate reading.

The ASSET has a standard 1/4-20 captive screw for mounting the camera (Figure 3). Also note the alignment pin which must line up with a hole in the camera. This ensures that the camera is facing in the correct direction. Slowly tighten the knurled screw (Figure 4).
